Day of the Triffids
I’ve recently watched this Exciting star studded 2009 adaptation of John Wyndham’s classic Science fiction novel, starring Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Eddie Izzard Vanessa Redgrave and Ewan Bremner
Originally shown last year, the story starts on a top secret facility where Scientists are breeding genetically modified plants called Triffids to extract their oil, as an alternative fuel source. Despite the initial success a scientist named Dr Mason (Scott) who has studied Triffids warns that keeping and breeding them is very dangerous, due to them being mobile, carnivorous, having a Fatal sting and an insatiable taste for human flesh, of course nobody listens.
Meanwhile the prospect of watching a spectacular solar storm has got everyone excited, unfortunately it proves to be so extremely bright it blinds nearly everyone and soon social order collapses, everybody starts panicking and chaos reigns,
Amid this chaos Mason’s fears are proved right when the Triffids manage to escape and run amok (Well, amble gradually amok) and it’s up to him to lead a ragtag group of sighted people on a desperate fight for survival and to find a way to defeat the Triffids, which is hindered somewhat by a charismatic but dodgy character named Torrence (Eddie Izzard) who tries to cause even more trouble amid the carnage.
